View Full Version : I'm back again... so what have I missed?

Hey all!

I've been away from paintball for a while (again) and I've made a resolution, of sorts, to get myself back up 'n running and back out onto the paintball field(s). This is gonna take some time as I'd 'let myself go' a bit over the last few years. I've also got most of my markers in pieces because that's how I left them when I'd stopped getting my paintball on. The only marker I've got that might be usable is my PMR which I'd bought as a treat to myself but never actually got around to using before all my kit got stowed away. This means I'm gonna take some time, probably from now until February/March next year, to get myself and my markers fit enough to play. The main problem is that I no longer know what's around, who is good to go to for parts and which parts are the better to choose from. It's kinda what put me off the last time I 'tried' to get back into the game a couple of years back.

So what's good? What developments have I missed on the Spyder front?

Welcome back! You haven't missed too much. Spyder has come out with the .50 cal and .43 cal (11mm) markers. The 11mm are pretty cool, fun to mess around with in the backyard. The .50 cal markers are pretty cool too, small and light weight. Other than that, things are about the same.

Welcome back!

Those questions that keep you back can always be asked to one of us veterans. We have quite a bit of a knowledge base here, and know where to look if we don't know. So... bring it on. ;)

Thanks for the welcome backs.

Hey shunut! I remember your truly awesome spimmy. I've still got the 2 FASORs and 2 spimmys amongst my old projects to finish and projects like your spimmy were always an inspiration. Are you still doing custom markers like that?

Are the forums a lot slower paced and less populated nowadays? Or am I just having problems with my browser? 2 days in a row now I've clicked on the New Posts tab and it's come up with nothing...

It's just slow. The older users typically still are active.

I don't really do them too much anymore, just don't have the time or funds. I have a couple in the works, but need the time to work on them. I would really love to get back into building them, as I loved to do it. Maybe once I finish my car and school, I'll have the time, and money.

yeah the forums are slow and nowadays there is more talk about non paintball stuff then paintball stuff. which is probably due to the fact that most of the regulars dont play anymore

So the forums are slower AND I'm having probs with my browser. I'm having this same problem on a couple of other forums and I don't know how to fix it. If anyone's got any suggestions... I'm using the latest version of IE and Firefox doesn't like being on my laptop. I've got these forums cookies authorised aswell.

I hope you can get back on them sometime. I'm on other forums and it seems almost all the decent aluminum killers have stopped doing what they'd done so well. :(

That's not the news I was hoping for but kinda what I'd thought was up. Again it's kinda the same story on other forums.

have you tried google chrome?

Just found out it's IE9 that's not liking these forums I frequent and I cant downgrade to IE8 because Windows 7 can only use IE9. It's also likely that it's causing the conflict with Firefox so I'm just going to have to put up with it.

I haven't tried Google Chrome. Is it good?

google chrome is fast but it's quite a bit different than IE. I used IE all my life and when i switched it took a little while to get used to but i love it now.

Chrome is what I use, when I'm not using Opera on a slow network.

Hmmm, I have Windows 7 and am on IE8 and Firefox with no issues whatsoever. That's odd it says you cant use it...

ASU sent out an email, shortly after IE9 was released, telling all student not to upgrade or download IE9 because there had been many reported issues with ASU's site and IE9 users.

I just installed 7 on 3 machines and all came stock with IE8, so you should be able to downgrade to IE8 no problem.

How to downgrade from IE9 to IE8 (http://techdows.com/2010/09/how-to-downgrade-from-ie9-to-ie8.html)

I've used the forum recently with IE8 (on a Windows 7 machine), the most recent version of Firefox and Safari (on both Win 7 and OSx machines), all work fine.

Thanks for that. I tried it but now neither version of IE works. They keep crashing. I did, however, manage to get Firefox working again. This forum, and others, work just fine now.

So back on topic I guess :p

I vaguely remember the VS/RS series being released just before I took my break from paintball and now it looks like they're gone. The valve & striker setup was different on them IIRC. Longer valve and shorter striker I think. Now there's the MR series. Do they use the same valves and strikers as the VS/RS series? And what's up with the Classic series? Do they use the same lower internals as the VS or are they the same as the old 'slim' internals?

the MR and classic series uses the same regular internals i believe the new pilot and electra have a different valve system in them though

There is the regular old Spyder valve, the Eco Valve and Balance Valve. I couldn't tell you exactly which ones are in each Spyder. I think the Balance Valve was a VS/RS thing though.

Balance Valve sounds familiar for the VS/RS series. What was the Eco Valve?
