Just something I've been working on in between ice storms and shifts at the prison. Guess the project and no cheating :D.

OH - and if you guess right and happen to be on other forums I posted this on, don't ruin the game for other "players."

GAH!

Just a project I've been working on between ice storms and shifts in the Prison...

Templates I made:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v388/druidsdecendant/Celtic%20Projects%20of%20Mine/First%20Hunter%20Sporran/1-Template3.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v388/druidsdecendant/Celtic%20Projects%20of%20Mine/First%20Hunter%20Sporran/1-Template2.jpg

What I have so far:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v388/druidsdecendant/Celtic%20Projects%20of%20Mine/First%20Hunter%20Sporran/3-ArrowsandCantle1.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v388/druidsdecendant/Celtic%20Projects%20of%20Mine/First%20Hunter%20Sporran/3-ArrowsandCantle2.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v388/druidsdecendant/Celtic%20Projects%20of%20Mine/First%20Hunter%20Sporran/4-CarvingFacestillwet1.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v388/druidsdecendant/Celtic%20Projects%20of%20Mine/First%20Hunter%20Sporran/4-CarvingFacestillwet2.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v388/druidsdecendant/Celtic%20Projects%20of%20Mine/First%20Hunter%20Sporran/2-Boss1.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v388/druidsdecendant/Celtic%20Projects%20of%20Mine/First%20Hunter%20Sporran/2-Boss2.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v388/druidsdecendant/Celtic%20Projects%20of%20Mine/First%20Hunter%20Sporran/2-Boss3.jpg

All materials are from Tandy Leather except for the Tartan, which are remnants from when Barb made my Kilt. It sits under the Boss and is centered under the Triquetra.

The sporran face and back are 12-14oz cow hide, the gusset is 4oz goat. The colors are 'British Tan" and common black.

The face color of the Sporran is going to match the Triquetra [British Tan], the Cantle is going to be black and carved to match the design [imprint] face of the Sporran.

I still have some smoothing to do on the Triquetra edges [where it's cut out] and I didn't get a pic of the gusset...but the gusset is a wide one, at 3" wide and is black.

Thanks. It takes a little practice but anyone that can operate a mallet and "paint" can do it. The tricky part is going to be the sewing or the pieces together...

Looks good Dru! And well done Marv o:

Fail #1 - Fanny = worn at the butt. This goes in the front.
Fail #2 - Clutch = held by the hand [or under the arm]. This is worn on a chain or belt.

...LOL...and thanks.

A mid-evil ping pong paddle.

...or a "flog" for the tavern wench :D

ppssst its easy when people type "hunter sporran" in the filename

...hence the "no cheating" thing I previously mentioned...;)

And artistic know-how.

meh...I'm far from what people commonly call an "artist"

To me "art" is a process...one that I happen to believe is just a certain set of things to do, in a prescribed manner, in which the outcome is aesthetically favorable or pleasing.

I kind of think of it this way...

1. Get a picture in your mind of what you want as an end result. In this case, a leather hunter Sporran.
2. Get leather and make a paper pattern of the parts.
3. Trace a pattern onto the leather and cut it/them out. This includes 3D motifs like the Triquetra on the boss.
4. wet and stamp the leather, making sure that one strike isn't any deeper than another [unless that's intended].
5. Stain the leather.
6. sew it together.

All that's left to do is put the snap on and seal it with the semi gloss coating.

I had the occasion to wear it today. Sadly, it was for a fellow Officer's funeral.

My Class A uniform for Honor Guard, en-route to play at graveside:
