Haven't seen one of these so I thought I would try to make a good one.

I ordered a D-Boys SIR shroud from ebaybanned, so, whenever it shows up (3-4weeks) I will post photos of the whole progress...

more to come...

edit: I'll edit the picture as it progresses and put it here.

Holy CRAP! The SIR shroud cleared customs yesterday!!! 9 frikin' days in customs? I have never seen it take that long... I was thinking there was a problem.... Should get it on Monday and I'm off this week so I'll be modding! woot!... Pics are coming...

I think the one Trinity makes is aluminium (trinitypaintball (http://www.trinitypaintball.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=TR+676) <-the pics make it look shiny) So there is a good chance I will get this one.

the only problem with the one for the x7 is that they get damaged/break easily...correct me if I'm wrong sonik, but isn't the one tippmann puts out for the x7 made of plastic...

sonik

yeah the tippy one is plastic... but from what I have seen it is fairly sturdy.

The shroud showed up Monday. ... I have a couple of pictures but I'm hesitant to show it off before it is finished. I'm still knocking around the idea of using an expansion chamber (trinity - the newer one) and making a delrin mag-well which should mount easily or using the BT fake mag well and using a reducer to air-thru the mag. If I don't use an expansion chamber I will need to use a stabilizer/reg for sure... CO2 is a drag...

EDIT: I'll post one picture... :-)

I have to trim the q-loader hose a bit... I have a Spec OPS commando stock coming but i thought I'd use the stock stock(redundant much?) for this weekend...

Almost done. The Stock should arrive Friday and in the mean time, I got a BT fake M16 mag and I am routing the airline down and out the back across the body to where the stock will be and if I can mod it... make it an air-thru... woot! more to come!

Pictures in a couple of days (i'm back at work tomorrow)

Getting there... next couple of days will be fun if I can get the rails in and cut to fit and the mag well cut to fit the air line.

Not a problem.. I know where you stand on these things. :)

The mag well and the hand guard are plastic so the weight is not really that much... it just LOOKS heavy.

I just got my Commando Stock in the mail and I opened the box AND.....

it.
is.

freaking.
stock.
boo.
..
GAAAAAHHH!!!

<end rant>

Well I called them and shipped it back already and Fiona says I'll get it by friday.... I hope.

Since the stock will prolly not be here in time, I put my old expansion chamber on it (makes it look like an AK47... :) ) and the remote hose.

boo.

Fiona, eh? That's a hot name... ;)

Got a big game coming up?

sonik

Yeah. Cottage week, and a bunch of us get together every year, some from the States, some from way out west... This year promises to be very big.... we started setting up small games about 4 years ago and it has snowballed.

woot! the stock came today, but I don't have time to finish the air-thru mod on the stock before I leave so... I *shudder* put the AK trinity expansion chamber back on (looks crap, weighs even more) but it is effective for now. I haven't chronoed this setup and it *sounds* a bit hot even with the crossfire air-tank so i'm gonna chrono tomorrow to make sure i'm not over...

enough babbling... Eye-candy time!

So how are you gonna go air-thru? Mod it yourself like mine?

sonik
08-13-2009, 07:14 PM
I think I will going in from the side... cutting up the BT mag to get it to work might still work but while I wait for the parts to show up, i'll leave it with the AK mag on there... the M16 mag is gonna look P1MP! :D so I'm not liking the step-back I had to take on this.

Ran a full q-pod through it today. chronoing at 290 bang on 30 shots in a row highest was 294. no chops but did get one no cocking (prolly would have chopped without the ACP terminus bolt). I had to keep flicking the feed hose as the bend coming off the pod holder was binding just enough to stop the feed. fixed it by adding a second o-ring to the feederhose so that it stands out straighter (if I pushed on the feed hose the balls would slip past the bend)
I hand fed 40 balls through and they slipped past with no resistance now.

I really like the Q-pod. great magazine if you get past the initial learning curve. My advice for new pod owners, load slowly, take your time and the balls will sail outta there. Kinda like packing a chute, do it right and methodically and you won't bind come rip time... and you can guess how important that is to you. :D

Edit: oh yeah... and my HK416 rear sight showed up today. :D :D

Was there any modifications needed to install the shroud

sonik
08-14-2009, 08:03 PM
Yes. I got a 1/2" riser to lift the SIR shroud off the marker so the the barrel was centred and fit along the top (metal part). The bottom plastic part needed to be cut to accommodate the MR2 metal front shroud (kept for a later part of the project) and a semi-circle cut-out for the feed neck along the top.

I have some more pictures to add soon.

i almost got a dboys shroud for the a-5, but its too much work. it looks like a better fit on the mr since you dont have that cyclone in the way!

sonik

I have been playing with it every weekend since the last update. I get so many 'oooos' and 'aaaaahhhs' from everyone.

I haven't had a chance to do any more ... My daughter's hockey has been keeping me pretty busy for the last few weeks but I'm going to finish the mag/regulator issue soon. I missed scoring a plamers inline stab on a5og.net a couple of days ago and i'm still burned about it. My plan now is to block the bottom hole with an M12x1.0 bolt, trimmed with a slot in it, and side mount an inline stab with air-thru to the stock; I have room under the q-pod and the shroud for it. It would be nice to have it tucked away in the butt-stock but I think this will work out best.

I'm kinda tempted to put the original fore-stock back on and use a female stab as I'm not sure I like running with a remote any more. (I'm so indecisive in the planning stages :) )

Any more progress Sonik?

You need a 1/2" riser rail to clear the sides and align the barrel with the middle of the shroud, but it is a pretty simple mod.

looks pretty cool. At this point it's just novel to see anyone with an upgraded marker or a marker at all around here
