View Full Version : The resurrection of an ancient colossus.....

I knew it would come back, but just not when. It's a marker that made it through all the SP hate mongers but lived the life of the modern day DM's, Ego's and the like. Maybe even more popular than those in its day. So popular there were at least 25 private label versions put into circulation. What teh hell am I speaking of you say?....

http://www.compulsivepaintball.com/mmCOMPULSIVEPAINTBALL/Images/SmartParts09Impulse.jpg

The Impulse of course! Rumor has it that Smart Parts is planning on resurrecting the Imp some time in 2009. The new Imp will be first presented at Millenium Germany and then at Chitown Open. Get your camera's ready boys! It will have some Luxe features, look similar to the Ego and will cost around $1000. Another poppet in competition with the Ego perhaps? After the introduction of the shabby Ion maybe SP can finally regain my respect. I suppose I'll need to start saving my pennies in contemplation of its possible resurgence - :D

nice, but i was kind of hoping for a nerve :(

DRAGON

I'm not sure they want to release anthing with the name of a flop. The Nerve was just a case of bad timing since it was released after the newly designed Shocker. Who wanted a Nerve for a larger cost than a newly designed Shocker that weighed and cost less in a spool design? -

DFSniper
05-15-2009, 02:18 PM
well, i wouldnt call it a flop in design, just marketing. i know a lot of people that prefer them over shockers.

DRAGON
05-15-2009, 02:27 PM
Never said it was a flopped design. It was basically an Imp on steroids. Specifically it was released after the Shocker which was something completely new. We know how people flood to the new stuff. The price over the Shocker was the nail in the coffin lid - ;)

Following on the heels of yesterdays announcement that Richmond Italia was getting back into paintball, we received several comments and emails suggesting that he would not be acting alone in revolutionizing the sport. We have just learned that Richmond’s new paintball enterprise will be known as “G.I. Milsim”. Richmond’s re-entry into paintball is one thing. Rumors that he is going to revolutionize paintball are another. Learning that Richmond has teamed up with the Gardner brothers? Wow.

No, the Luxe did removable magnetic covers. Great concept up until they pop off when you get hit in just the right spot and you can't find them. Hinges attaching them to the body is a great idea.

HP = High pressure reg such as the reg that is the main source from the bottle & the pressure that shoots teh ball -

LP = LPR, the main pressure source that operates the EP-noid -

My guess.......^^^^

I can't imagine why they would put something like that on there. If it were to adjust the whole system for an HP or LP tank, then I would think that generally people have one or the other and they would leave such an adjustment inside the board because it would make more sense. And then if one were to adjust the LPR and one to adjust the HPR, that still wouldn't make sense because it just leaves more room for people to be dumb and mess things up. Not to mention, those are things (at least with the LPR) you set once and leave alone. And, lastly, in general, adjustments on pressure wouldn't seem practical to have built into buttons on the frame, as this would allow for easy adjustment on the field, which would cause issues with legality in which I would assume they would put on a tourney lock but if they're going to do that, they may as well leave the adjustments inside or through mechanical tools.

So those are not buttons at all. I can see the faint + under the LP and I suppose you're to shove a hex key through it to adjust it and I presume there is another + for the HP adjustment.

Looks nice, but meh. Will cost mucho dinero. And I see they have taken advantage of their access to Dye's on/off ASA design.

He also noted that nothing is on paper yet, so anything other than the fact that they're planning a new Intimidator is just speculation. I just hope they go back to multiple milling styles.

As for the Imp, I'm not overly impressed, it just looks like 4 or 5 guns on the market were selectively interbred. Of course, that's just commenting on looks, I guess we'll have to wait and see how "Smart Partsy" this gun really is.

just reading on ansgear and
Where are the Impulse's regulators and how are they adjusted?
***Both the primary and second-stage regulators for the Impulse are built into small rectangular cartridges housed inside the grip frame. They are adjusted using allen-wrenches through the Impulse control panel *- a rubber panel on the back of the grip frame. The modular design of the regulators also makes them quite simple to remove, inspect and clean or repair.

Don't know the exact routing path, but have heard they are using some sort of stainless steel line for the routing from the regs.

it should be the same as how they did the luxe....

TheDarkShadow

the luxe has a standard reg (well sorta) but isn't the reg in the grip, not the foregrip? so wouldn't the air route be different?

DRAGON
06-09-2009, 09:37 PM
The grip is a large volumizer similar to the AMG cept it has no line in. The regs are supposed to be pretty easy to work on. You use a .125" allen wrench to take both regs out at the same time. To disassemble the reg, tap one end and the piston falls out. The other side of the reg will require a pick or snap ring pliers. Someone got an extra grand laying around they don't need? I'm in need of some donations here - :dodgy:
