hey how good are apex barrels because i was lookin at this barrel right here (http://www.paintball-discounters.com/get_item_020567a.htm) because its a great price and stuff but how good is it?
and would i be able to take the apex thing completely off the barrel?

i don't own the apex but according to big red, all the barrels that come with the apex ( all the barrels made by bt) are ****. your best bet is to get a J&J, or a lapco. on the barrels make sure it says apex ready. then buy the apex tip alone, and an m4 shroud that fits the barrel you got. good luck

Apex works great everyone I recomend them to loves them and I have never heard one person say they regreted getting it. However the apex tip is sooooo much more better on an aftermarket barrel.

As for Red, hes a dork dont listin to him :p

(for those that dont know I like to give Red a hard time, he does know what he is talking about)

i, personally, think Apex barrels are cheating because they cause the ball to go around the bunker. BUT, its technically not cheating. i dnt believe theres a rule against it. i wuld suggest a j&j or smart parts for a barrel instead

Yes I ran with the J&J and Apex and loved it. For that price though get that M-16 Apex Thats a steel and you can then take off all the extas and put them on what ever other barrel you get.

deffinatly agree, the apex is ALOT better on an aftermarket barrel.

The accuracy is all in the honing of the barrel, and BT probably doesn't even bother with it. They're just like stock barrels: rolled pieces of aluminium with the edges smoothed out.

so should i get it or a j&j because i really want the BT barrel but you gys say it sucks so idk
and isnt the barrel im lookin at considered an aftermarket barrel?

I have the exact barrel on my MR2 but with the AK47 shroud. As long as you match paint (it likes a bigger bore size) the thing is decent. Honestly, with cheap stuff like JT tac my barrel is accurate enough to hold it's own on the field. The only thing I don't like about it is the barrel is 16" long with the Apex tip, so getting behind cover is a pain. Plus I play with my stock on, so my gun is longer than any real AK, SKS, or anything else like it.

But it scares the poop out of people who don't know what it is, and those that do know mark it. It's also much louder than the stock barrel (I like it that way), and you can take the Apex tip off to drop 2" from the gun.

Whoa whoa whoa...... Get the J&J Ceramic. If you do decide to get an Apex, make that decision later on. Once part at a time, one problem at a time. If you're going to get an Apex with a BT barrel, you might as well just get the Apex tip and modify the stock barrel so it'd mount to it. Although they're considered an aftermarket barrel as they are not made by Spyder, the honing and polish are practically the same as the stock barrel.

Ditbu, I can do that with ever a barrel-less marker... how? Put the marker right up to the hole. ;) It isn't that hard to make a claim like that via the internet, but experience and veteran status give me the right to say that that is not the case.

My advice is get both. The J&J is faily cheap and the you can take eveything off of the BT M-16 barrel and then put it on the J&J. Thats what I did just make sure you get the 16 inch J&J so it will all fit. :D

^ I agree a cheep way to do it is buy the apex then watch bst section JJ are on there alot for 10-15$ and it will give you a little time to scrape the cash up.

ok so I got the barrel and striped it and with the apex tip on its like 20 inches. Im very disappointed, the site claimed it was 14 inches. So now im gonna eventually buy another barrel and put the apex tip on that barrel.

you will be far more happy with the aftermarket barrel anyway try a JJ sending you a pm celtic.

does a bigger barrel waste alot of air? Because if it does im very angry, Is there any good to a bigger barrel?

bigred76
06-04-2009, 08:22 PM
I am not going to say what a bigger barrel's good for... lol....

Yes, longer barrels do use more air... just slightly. Like Shady said, the stock barrel that comes with the Apex is ****. A J&J would be a good idea.

Hat uses the JJ and apex tip together and swears by it so you wont be dissapointed if you go that route. The barrel you got is probably for the MR2/3 its longer because of the shroud.

Like Tim said a longer barrel uses more air but I doubt if you would ever notice it. Maby 20 shots for a 20 oz. less. not a big deal IMO.

I used too run the J&J/Apex combo but now I am using the Empire Barrel Kit/Apex combo but Slim is right if you get the J&J you wont be disapointed

I know this thread is pretty much closed down, but I read something that sparked my interest. It was said that you can remove the AK shroud from the BT barrel; I'd like to know how. I understand how to take off everything except the sling point, how do I take that off?

slim and shady
07-24-2009, 06:38 PM
there is a setscrew underneith where the loop for the sling is just loosen it off and slide it off.

I guess you've bought the barrel already but if not try dorosports.com their cheaper than paintball discounters
