New to posting guys, so bear with me. I have a oler MR2 w/o eyes (maybe 4 yrs). It chops all the time. I have yet to finish a game. Here is my current setup: MR2 w/o eyes, ACP 2 ring bolt, new stronger detents (Timmy's I believe), M16 Barrel w/APEX (and shroud), everything else on gun is stock. I am using a VL Eye Force loader (approx. 20 Bps + or -). I can get about maybe a dozen or so shots before I chop one. It almost seems like the chops are occuring in the feed neck area. It's hard for me to really tell, but that is where most of the paint is. I was having the same problem when I first got the gun and everything was stock. If I shoot 1 ball every 3 or 4 seconds its fine. I am also pretty thorough on cleaning my gun each time and oiling what needs to be oiled. I have inspected the detents they seem to be fine, not borken or anything, no burrs inside the chamber or anywhere else. We are going to play in a couple of hours from now and I am goint to give it a try one more time. Guys, let me know if there is anything else I need to try or check. OBTW I have used several different brands of paint and it doesn't seem to matter.

cheap balls? maybe your pressure is set to high? velocity set to high?

Thanks for the thread info. Will try to adjust velocity today and see what happens. Thanks.

sounds like you have alot of blowback, make sure to check your velocity. you should always know what your gun is chronoed at anyway. you have a dood loader and detents a good bolt so outside of the velocity im not sure why else it could chop. do you use co2 or HPA?

Here are the results from todays action: I had a few chops each game we played today. Most of the chops were coming from the one of the last few balls out of my hopper. None occurred around or in the feedneck (what a pain to clean). All the chops were around the bolt itself. Blowback/velocity may be the issue. We were playing on a private field and had no access to a chrono to check our guns. The last time I had it checked was last year and I had to adjust it down to around 280. That was also before all the additions (bolt, detent, etc.). I'm sure it needs it again. After we played I ran about 500-600 balls through. It chopped each time the hopper ran low. I adjusted the velocity (slower) and it seemed to do a little better. We are thinking about buying a chrono. Any suggestions on were to look for a good one? I will test it again this week once I can get it chronoed. Slim, we use CO2 and the temp was in the 40s today. If it makes any difference, we played 2 weeks ago and it was in the upper 60s (thats Louisiana for you) and I had the same problem (not sure temp was playing as much a factor as the velocity). Just a side note: When this gun is firing correclty, it will certainly pin someone down. Thanks for your help and I will let you know what happens with the velocity test. Oh and thanks for the welcome.

I almost forgot, when you take your bolt, spring, etc., out to clean them, will that affect the veloctiy by chance? Just wondering.

not unless you touch the velocity screw.

You may chop when there are the last few balls in the marker because there is no actual force on them when there isnt a full stack glad you had good luck with it.

I kinda thought the same thing about the force behind the last few balls. My fault for not paying attention. Slim, do you happen to know any sites with decent chronos? Also, is there an easier way to clean the APEX once paint gets inside it, or do you have to take it apart? Last question, is there an easier way to get the bolt out if you're in the field? I've been using my squeege to push it out the back side.

Easiest way to clean an Apex: take it off the barrel and toss it in the trash. ;) Just IMO, though it is true.... :D

For your chronograph question, you really have two options as far as a budget chrono goes. You can get an X-Radar (white) or the Paintball Radar (yellow). Not too much different between them, they both tell you the speed of your marker, which you NEED TO DO EVERY TIME YOU PLAY (sorry, but someone has to say it and be the *******). ActionVillage is great, but they don't always have them in stock. I'll do a little perusing and see if I can find a good store with them in stock and at a decent price for ya.

X-radar is the way to go

Its what I have, but the yellow one might be slightly easier to use because with the X-Radar you have to hold down the black button while awkwardly trying to fire your marker.

It's up to you, doesn't really matter.

I beleive ther is a chrono for sale in the BSTs right now for 90ish that would do you just fine. as for the apex on feild I use a battleswab off feild just run warm water through it. cleans if right up. as for the bolt no I dont know another way i just push it out with a battleswab as the only reason I would be doing it on feild is if I had a chop that resaulted in a peice of the shell jamming between the bolt and body, so I would need the swab anyway.

Thanks for the info guys. I think we are going to invest in the X Radar Chrono. I will let you know how everything goes with the velocity/chops. Thanks again.

Hopefully you've solved the problem by now. I have the old MR2 myself, and it chopped all the time (about every 4 balls) until I did some surgery on it. I took the bolt out and clipped some of the acs spring off. I know some people say to not do that, but it made the acs perform Much better. I can put my finger in the breech, fire, and the bolt bounces off my finger all day. I also put timmy detents in, and I'm running a spyder fasta 18v loader. Since I've clipped the acs spring, i've not chopped a single ball. That was a few cases ago. I also run the APEX on the BT AK47 barrel, and it's not that hard to clean. 4 screws, hot water, and you're good to go.

With my gun set up the way it is, I have the range and ROF to be a true annoyance to anyone on the field. Just be careful clipping the acs spring, only take a few millimeters off at a time until it performs the way you want.

okay so im the nwe guy and dont know how to make my own thread. anyways I am having problems with chopping paint. i have an mr2w/o eyes and i was wondering if i should cut the spring down thats in the acs bolt or should i just leave it and just compress the spring for awhile. If so how long should i keep the spring compressed. i am running hpa with an aftermarket barrel, sotck and remote.
