View Full Version : Balls Falling Out Of Barrel

This is regarding the Maxis i just got. (spyder clone, close enough) When a put my CO2 or HPA tank on the gun and pull the trigger, the balls just roll out of the barrel. There is a small leak in the hose from the X.C. to the drop forward. Could this be the problem?

05-30-2008, 03:19 PM
Yes that is a problem.

Are you 100% sure on that Irish? I stripped the stupid 1/8 NPT fitting on the stock XC so I have to wait for a 32 degree XC I ordered last week so I can test it.

Does it ONLY leak when you hook it up to air? if it doesnt, it might be the detents. I had that problem with my viewloader triad a while back, detent was gone for some reason and I was shooting 18 balls at a time... not fun.

If you have a ball in the chamber and no air is hooked up and you pull the trigger....what should happen?

slim and shady

The leak is a seppereate problem from the balls rolling out.
Change your detents and the balls wont roll out then isolate the leak and deal with it.

nothing should happen the ball should just stay in place.

but if you pull the trigger and the balls roll out, than the leak could be the issue. Something about his description doesn't sound like the leak is so major that their would be no air reaching the ball. Make sure your bolt is in the right way. That mixed with the air leak could definitely do it.

This is totally two separate issues:

1. He's missing a ball detent

2. He has a breached hose, valve, or faulty o-ring.

no i have this problem b4 too.
1) check the ball detender
2) check if ur bolt is on the right side (mind was upside down)

I checked the online diagram and made sure everything was in right. Also, when i plug in my tank, I get a large bust of air from my barrel for about 2 seconds.

Where can I find replacement detents? I dont even know what they look like. Ive never had to deal with this before.

I just did a lil test. No air with paint in the hopper. I pull the bolt back and fire (pointing the gun towards the ground), 1 ball will come out. Normal????

05-31-2008, 09:44 AM
Yes, that is normal. The bolt stills disengages the ball from the detent.

so the detent is still good, its probably just the leak.
Thanks for all the help

OK so i fixed the leak, hooked up my HPA tank and fire......ball just rolls out of the barrel and then I have to recock the bolt. Whats the issue?

Bolt in correctly?

06-04-2008, 05:18 PM
I believe so, I took apart the gun twice now and followed the online diagram. I'm baffeled...
If a gun description says "Low pressure operation" does this mean that HPA is not supported?

06-04-2008, 06:44 PM
I don't know, that still sounds like the bolt's upside down. But, with the bolt not re-cocking....

06-04-2008, 06:56 PM
Ive tried both ways the bolt can go in...one way is worse than the other. I'd pull my hair out but I shaved it all off.

06-04-2008, 07:12 PM
yeah, the not cocking is throwing me off. is it the e-grip? check your battery if it is. It's a bit of a stretch in my mind, but you never no. It's one of the most common problems at our local field. People just don't ever think about it.

scratch that, just briefly researched the gun and I couldn't find an electronic version.

Backwards valve pin? Is the valve pin sticking through the valve so that the striker hits it, opening the valve? If you are sure the bolt is in right this would be my next guess.

06-05-2008, 03:29 AM
Is the pressure high enough? If the pressure is too low it won't recock.

There is an electro version but mines jus tthe mech. I assembled the gun according to the online diagram. I use HPA which works fine on another gun. I'm going to try CO2 tonight and see if that does anything. The valve orifice seems to be a lil rusty but not corroded enough to impair the valve pin (which is also in correctly)

I once saw the striker bolt's "bumper" installed infront of the striker. The ball would come out of the barrel about 20'. It is the one with number 26A... Here (http://www.spyder.tv/section/support/manuals/mr1.pdf)

06-05-2008, 01:42 PM
Yeah that could be it if the problem was with my MR1 lol Its a VL Maxis...BE forum is useless so I came here instead. I hooked up the CO2 5 mins ago and again, the same problem. Gonna tinker a lil more then find a good cliff or deep lake to drop it into.

06-07-2008, 11:59 AM
I had that problem with my MR1 but I end up figuring it out. the problem was my bolt was upside down :D
I mean that probably isn't the problem but thought I might as well let you know, just in case :)

06-07-2008, 12:21 PM
Yeah everythings assembled correctly. I got it working about 5 mins ago. Lotsa Lube and few new orings did the trick. Thanks for all the help everyone.

Sweetness! Hope it lasts!
