Well, my brother is still in Michigan on business. He desided I should drive 6 hours to see him. I'm all for it!

I love long drives, and now that I have the struts replaced on my car, I'm 100% ready for it!

Well, here's the reason I posted this thread:
I noticed there are a few people here that are from Michigan. I'll be driving from NY to MI by crossing into Canada around the Niagara falls area. My brother, who is in Flint, said that I'll have to drive through Detroit...

...well, who's on the way from Canada to Flint? Anyone I pass, or fields I would pass that I could check out/say "Hi" to? I want to see what the fields in other states look like.

Another question: Will the border piggies confiscate my PB equipment if I decide to bring it?

Canadian Boarder patrol probably wouldn't. I'd disassemble it to a point where they can see through the assembly and label the box "paintball marker" explicitly, with a manual lying on the top. a single trigger marker is most likely to raise redflags but i wouldn't worry too much. DOT or the canadian counterpart might have a fit about transporting an HPA tank though.

When I went to Niagra Falls they didnt check the car or anything. They just were like, "where are you from, what are you doing here, and how long will you be staying" after having all of our IDs handed to the man. For us, we were staying in some hotel there, and were just visiting. Im sure if you were driving through they may care a little more about whats in your car. They arent super strict, they seem alot more laid back. I do agree with claus, the HPA tanks get everyone with traveling or shipping.

about the laid back part... thats so true, we were in the US to buy a truck last year (it wasnt cross border shopping for better deals, its cause it was a really rare truck that there isnt to many in canada) but anyway, back to canada, we had to stop at tthe US side, we had to get searched and everything and a whole bunch of crap, but then to get through canada customs, it was like heres a form, and have a good day, hope you dont have anything illegal, or boy we'd sure be red in the face, and they were cracking jokes the whole time... something you dont do with US customs lol

Coming from my friends who live in Canada, don't even bother. If you get caught with that coming into Detroit you will probably never see it agian. Now most likely they won't won't search your car but its random. You might want to try contacting customs.. idk how.. but they might have some better info on the subject because no one really knows who I have talked to they just all say it isn't worth the risk.

:questionicon: idea: skip canada all together and make the trip longer by hitting ohio first and stopping to see taylor and me.

Ha, I would... but I'd need a place to stay for the night. It would add like 4 or more hours to the trip... lol.

i'd go to nc. i wanna hit up the old haunts, even though 90% of my friends have moved...

but since we're on the subject of road trips, my friend in georgia and i planned a tentative road trip to VA this summer, so if the plans don't fall through, i'm gonna try to hit some of the fields in that area.

What part of VA? If it's in northern VA, maybe we could go paintballing sometime?

I will tell you this...A long time ago at a border not far away (port huron)

I made the brilliant move of reaching under my seat after a border guard was questioning us trying to get back into Michigan...He kept railing us about souveneres and well I had enough...under my seat I had a bag with some Hockey pucks from a maple leafs wings game...yeah don't reach under the seat.

Second time after coming back from a casino ther was no guard in the booth...it was like 3 am...I waited 5 minutes or so and drove through...yeah you'd be surprised how many cars with flashy lights come to welcome you home! Thank goodness for the video we had showing that toll booth willy wasn't there
(thank goodness for the drunks playing with the video cam)...yeah I love Canada.

Another time we had my buddies suburban and I was the designated driver...again...and his wife worked for her mom's bridal shop and the had a manequin in the back...well not so bright drunks decided it would be funny to take the torso and head cram it between his legs and cover it up with a blanket...yeah border guards don't have a sense of humor...then they say the legs and arms with their flashlights through the tinted glass...they searched the vehicle on suspiction of sneaking people into the country. His wife my wife and another friend thought it was hilarious. Yeah that must of been the liquor talking.

I'm much smarter now...of course it's been 12 years :)
