View Full Version : Dusting off a Classic

I just pulled my spyder (classic) off my shelf. Havent used it in years. Ide like to put it back into service but theres an upgrade I would like to do first. I want to put a drop forward to better handle my 20oz co2 tank. I was looking at the Dead On Bullet 5525 Dead On Bullet 5525 (http://www.deadonpaintball.com/DEADONPAINTBALL/itemdesc.asp?CartId={F2C95149-9DA5-497EVERESTA-8F74-443B8B1CA2B0}&ic=BDF5525BK&eq=&Tp=) I like this drop because its already staggered to fit a spyder and already has an asa, seems good enough for the price. I was wondering if anyone could give any advice before i decide to buy this, and what length of SS hose i should get. Also is there anything I can do for an expansion chamber, regulator, or just something to act as a foregrip? doesnt seem like theres anything on the market now that will fit how the spyder is setup. thanks.

Have you considered a HPA tank? Now you can get a 47/3k tank for ~60. The price of all that stuff plus some left over.

HPA is also the same as the air we breath, and you don't run into the problems you did with co2. (as you shoot the velocity goes down, on hot days you will shoot hot, more consistent shots i.e. better accuracy) also any field you go to will normally include all day air as admission price.

It's also much smaller, lighter and shorter than a 20oz.

You also don't need a reg, the reg on the tank will put out exactly 800psi(spyders operating pressure) every shot. A C02 is just an open valve regulated only by a chemical reaction.

bullet drops are terrible. their spyder holes are the ONLY upside. first, the dovetail is reversed, so you cant fit any other on/off on it besides the one it came with. then, the on/off screw is really loose when you unscrew it, and my friend actually had his (well, mine, it was my loaner gun) fall off while we were walking across the field.

I have the bullet drop forward and it's not the best, but it will do the job. As for it falling off, just use the safety on the gun instead of shutting the gas off every time. Only thing that bugs me is that I have to take the fill nipple cap off my 88/4500 tank to get the tank on.
If you want something to use a a fore grip, I would see if you can find a expansion chamber from a newer spyder, like the pilot. Most of the time it will come with a spyder stock drop forward, which will probably be enough. I like the set up. But if you want an on/off, you could look for an adapter for the drop forward. Then you would be able to use any drop forward you wanted to.

Here is a pic of my classic with the stock pilot expansion chamber and drop forward:
