View Full Version : Clear/Smoke Hoppers - Tourny Legal?

I forget where I heard it but 1-2 years ago I head that Transparent/Semi-Transparent hoppers were no longer tourny legal due to the advantage of seeing how much paint you had left at all times.
Is this true or just a rumor I heard?

I think it's the fact that it makes it more difficult for refs to decipher if your hopper has been hit with the same color paint as you're using w/a clear hopper. Though I don't like the clear hoppers anyways, glad I don't need to worry about the tremendously amounting rules the tourney players have to adhere to. All I need to do is go to a field and have a good time -

Couldn't have said it any better myself Drago. That's the main reason I dont play tourney ball..

As of right now I don't play in any tournys. But my friends and I who play have talked about entering a local tourny.
I don't like the clear/smoke color hoppers much either normally, but the Empire Reloader B Diamond Smoke color is a really deep black that is barely transparent. I wouldn't mind knowing how much paint I had left w/o having to look though ;)

I have a Zeggo w/clear lid. I can simply look through the lid to see if I need to reload or not but ya, much easier to just look through the shell from the sides -

Not to many local tournys around here care about shell color, unless they follow the rules strict. You will see shell color problems in the big leagues at NPPL or PSP. If anything just ask the field(s) that host the tournys.

Chubbz is right, they won't care most likely. The issue was because if a ball broke on the inside of your hopper it might have looked like a hit on the outside to a ref... not because clear shells have any special advantage.

...stickers too. I got a crap-load of stickers on the egg and yer only allowed to have one that's 4x6 (i think) or smaller on each side
