Diese ist spaß! Wir sprechen deutsch auch hier, nicht nur in die deutsch klasse!

(this is fun! we also speak german here, not only in german class!)

Vertrauen "google translate" nicht. "google translate" ist schlecht für übersetzen. Du fragst die Deutsch Sprechen Leute (Irishwarrior, mir, andere Deutsch Sprechen Leute) für hilfen.

Translation:
Don't trust google translate. Its not very good for tranlsating. Ask any of the german speaking people (irish warrior, me, other german speaking people) for help.

Heres an example of the google's translation, proving that it is wrong. you will see that it says "Trust 'Google Translate'." that is incorrect because I said "nicht" at the end of my german sentence. nicht negates my sentence, making the literal translation "trust google translate NOT".

Google:
"Trust "google translate". "Google translate" is bad for translation. You ask the German speaking people (Irish Warrior, to me, other German speaking people) for aid."

Hope that works with the rules :D

Wenn mann "Ja" für eine Antwort geben will. Oder wenn man "richtig" sagen will. Wie in "Jawohl, das ist die richtige Antwort.:

When you want to give "yes" for an answer. Or when you want to say "correct." As in "Correct (or "Yes"), that is the right answer."

Well this is why the old thread got locked... It was entirely in German and the mods couldn't understand any of it! I speak a little German, but not enough to understand how to spell it very well... Downloaded a translator for my FireFox to help with the words I couldn't understand and how to spell those I didn't know how to.

I'm about a quarter German.

Edit: Thanks for reminding me... I need to upgrade my XBL account back up to Gold so I can play online again!

In simple past an example: I have been to Austria. Ich hatte in Osterreich sein. (please correct this if it is wrong) Just use war for was/were and hatte for had/have.

Present perfect: I worked at a store. Ich bin in Kaufhaus gearbeitet. (again, correct if wrong) For statements us noun sein or haben (both conjugated) and most verbs ihr/er,sie,es form with ge- in the front.

EDIT: :jawdrop: :jawdrop: :jawdrop: YOU HAVE A LUGER!!!!! OMG!!!!! Wir mußen pikturen haben!

Hmmm, sorta like Spanish then in that sense of verb conjugation. I didn't know that!

Irgendjemand für ein Spiel von Halo3 später heute Abend? Ich bin auf der Westküste (PST), so denken Sie dass wenn, Zeiten sagend... Ich werde wahrscheinlich danach 8:00 (11:00 EST) frei sein. Es ist ein netter Luger auch! Ich habe nur ein einmal nahe gesehen, und wunderte sich daran es ist Design. Geben Sie es den Deutschen, um eine Pistole ohne Schrauben zu machen!

Anyone up for a game of Halo3 later on tonight? I'm on the West Coast (PST), so keep that in mind when saying times... I'll probably be free after 8:00 (11:00 EST). That's a nice Luger, too! Konnen Sie sag mal was ist nicht richtige uber unser tenses? Danke

Can you explain with examples what you mean by our tenses being off? I would like to learn how to say things correctly. Thanks

it should be "Konnen Sie mal sagen was nicht richtig ist mit unser tenses?" (actually, if you want to get down to it, i think the proper sentence structure would be "Konnen Sie mal sagen was mit unser tenses nicht richtig ist?")
i dont know the rule that goes with that, because i never paid much attention to german grammar.

"sag" is the root word. the suffixes for verbs are "te" "Er/Sie/Es sagte" (he/she/it said), and "en" as in "sagen" (to say). i think for the first one, the exception is if there are other words between the subject and verb, you add "ge" in front of it and drop the "e" at the end, so it would be "Er hatte das gesagt." (he said that.) and about the luger, it should be "gekauft". i think thats pretty much right. like i mentioned before, i never went to a german school, and i breezed through german I and II because everything was instinctive, so i never bothered memorizing all the grammar rules (heck, i didnt even bother trying to learn english grammar rules in high school!)

irishwarrior
02-28-2008, 01:57 PM
My German teacher may be wrong (a German exchange student at my school has said he got some things wrong) but he said in simple past (hatte/war) you use the regular form of the verb. Thanks for the explanation, German grammar confuses me sometimes.

Edit: Es tut mir Leid, fur Englisch schreiben. Ich hatte zu faulenzen fur Deutsch schreiben.

Sorry for writing in English. I have been too lazy to write in German.

PS: Is it just me, or has anyone else been spelling english words the german way?

irishwarrior

Here's a grammar tip I just remembered, I don't know how well it holds with the more advanced German, but, at least in beginner German if it sounds a lot like medieval English when you translate it literally it's most likely correct.

Ex: Was spielst du?

lit: What play you?

Ex: Konnen Sie mit meine Hausaufgaben helfen?

lit: Can you with my homework help?

DFSniper

umm, i think its Herr, because "mein Herr" is like "my good sir" (not like anyone says that anymore) or "my lord"

04-07-2008, 09:45 AM
Well, my German teacher (who doesn't explain these things well) said that mich is the accusative possessive and mir was the dative possessive, but I'm still confused on when these should be used.

Ex: Ich fuhle mich nicht wohl.

Literally: I feel myself not well.

Translation: I don't feel well.
