View Full Version : WARNING: RAP4 camera is a fake

Ok, I recently bought an Oregon Scientific ATC-1000 camera to mount on my MR-1 for about $40 on ebay, average price new is about $60. Today I was looking around for something and stumbled on the RAP4 Land Warrior Wireless Camera System (http://cgi.ebay.com/RAP4-Land-Warrior-Mobile-Camera-System-Paintball-Sports_W0QQitemZ110221372748QQihZ001QQcategoryZ362 85QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) for an MSRP of $200. This is the EXACT same camera. If you look closely in the pictures it even says Oregon Scientific right on it. All the specs are exactly the same, they just fail to mention that it's not really their product.
I just wanted to make sure that nobody is falling for this obvious scam from a major dealer in paintball products. Please remember to research any upgrades before you upgrade them. I hate to hear about people falling into schemes like this.
The ATC-1000 is a quality camera for the price, if you need something a little faster than you may opt for the ATC-2000 which retails for about $150 but doesn't carry the same tactical look. It's up to you, but at least now everyone should know what it's worth.

I've been looking for something like this, does it take still pictures, or just video? Is there a separate unit required to plug into, or is it standalone?
Good info to pass on, correct my math if needed but that's like a 300%+ mark up. 8O

I didn't even want to think of the actual markup, it just made meet quite raging, well, you know. Yeah, it takes stills and it runs on 4 AAA batteries and plugs in to your computer via usb. The included software doesn't really do much and isn't necessary, kinda like ms paint for video. I downloaded Jahshaka from sourceforge.net (free software) and it works great including features to let you rotate the footage (say, if you need to mount it sideways like me) and add music and everything. Trust me, unless you're doing some serious filming for something professional quality, this is an excellent choice for any paintball need and it looks great on the gun. I'll get some pictures up when I'm done with a few of my other mods.

Is that rap4's price, or just that guys price?

Hey Cyberthrasher.........LMK and we'll put it up unrestricted on my server so we can see the quality..........for some reason every time you upload to a video site they loose quality!

glad i stumbled upon this thread, ive been looking for a true video editing program (not like Movie Maker or Sony Vegas). does it let you overlay images on top of the video too, because thats what i'm really looking for.

Hey, DF, I haven't had a chance to play with that portion to much, but if it doesn't, there might be something else on sourceforge as well that will do it.
Thanks for the Timber, I'll remember that once I get it out and play. Hey, do you know the real status of BK?
and yes, That is RAP4's, and everyone else who sells their version of the camera, price.

Yep BK just closed..........it's a sad time! They are still talking about a rec field in the summer time on top of the hill............guess we'll see!

the act 2000 on ebay with a 2.0gig memory card $119. Much better deal. (http://cgi.ebay.com/WIRELESS-HELMET-CAM-CAMERA-ATC2000-ATC2K-ATC-2000-AT18_W0QQitemZ320215496232QQihZ011QQcategoryZ48514 QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)

yeah, the 2000 just didn't really fit my mil-sim dreams and I'm happy with the 1000 that looks cool on my gun and I didn't have much to spend on it at the time.

Yeah when I first saw the "land warrior" on RAP4 I laughed my guts out.
I got a ATC-2000 and it works great. Gotta be careful what type of SD card you get. If the speed is not high enough then you can't get full 30FPS on 640x480.
I've tried it in rain, dipped it into water, in the sun, my friend borrowed it out to wakeboard. I've strapped it to my gun a couple of times and it picks up the cycling of the bolt and air of the gun so well it just rocks. Its a nifty little system and I think a lot of people will have a good time with it on the field.
Anyway here's where I got it from:
The ebay deal on deano's link is better - comes with the Ultra 2.0 SD card - the minimum you need for an hour of full frame rate and full res recording.

That reminds me of the $20 "disposable" cvs camcorder...
Slight modification to it, and you have a dirt cheap digi camcorder. You only get a 15 mins oe so of vid at 640x480, but hey, its tiny, and cheap.
