I am getting a 32 Degrees icon from Action Village (should be arriving in 5 days here's the link (http://www.actionvillage.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/en/-/USD/DisplayProductInformation-Start;sid=t9L-KW9LoXT-sSjRlow-gWXtPmMd4e76tAc=?ProductID=4S2sFAY7Nz8AAAD3YKilA_2 s)). I got it because it was the only in-stock marker for less than 50 bucks. I wanted to get it as a project gun to gain experience working with paintball guns and if I screw it up too badly it's only a $40 gun, not a $100+ gun. It's going to be my first project gun and I'm relatively new to intense modding. Anyone have any info on what parts fit the Icon or at least can be changed to fit on? Also what barrel threadings will the Icon accept? Thanks for all your help! :D:dancingman:

Im pretty sure its a full spyder clone.

Pardon me for being a bit of a newb:o , but that means that most if not all Spyder parts (internal and external) are compatible, right?

As far as I ma aware every part is interchangable.

I' going to make it into a M14-style sniper gun. I will get a RAP4 22" barrel and encase it in stained wood. Also once I settle on the best way to attach it I will make a wooden stock that's either hollow and with a door to reach the bolt or make it detachable and drill a hole into the stock for the bolt to move back and forth. I'm also going to take the RAP4 Spyder expansion chamber mag and attach it on. The only thing I am not sure how to do is, does anyone know how to convert a vertical feedneck to an offset feedneck? If not I'll just get a Q-loader. Thanks!

You could buy a $75 marker and turn it into this:
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y81/TeddyBearFuzz/IMG_8902OTM.jpg

I had little experience when I started it... I had only started building my other gun (The One) and it's not very different. Not hard at all actually.

Are you good artistically/mechanically?

Yeah, if it's an Icon X, it's basically a Spyder Victor. :)

My MR1 looks a lot like that, only I bought mine when they were new for $140. I had absolutely no mod skills when I did it, the only other gun I had owned was a completely stock (except for barrel) mech Piranha R6. Here's my baby:

Instead of making a regular M14 replica, I am going to make a M14 Carbine replica. Instead of a wooden stock, weld some metal into a stock and make it side-folding. I'm going to make it similar to this...

http://www.dogfightink.com/m14carbine.jpg

What would be an appropriate barrel length compromise for sniping and being a carbine? I was thinking 18". Thanks.

Careful of encasing the barrel in wood as you stated, you don't want to block the porting of the barrel.

Like in the real M14 I'm only going to encase part of the barrel in wood, and I'm not too, too concerned about noise since at the field i play the fields are too small for the sounds of battle to be heard everywhere.

I am about 1/2 way through on this and it's true no "plan stands the test of battle". I have changed my ideas for wood to pipe insulation and tape for practical reasons. Here's a pic:

Here's the Barrel:

http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2008-1/1296145/Photo22.jpg
It's a RAP4 18" tactical barrel and a Whisper Muzzle Brake with 2 pieces of pipe insulation, one on the barrel, the other on the valve body. All of it is electric taped giving it a nice grip.

Here's the Main Body:

http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2008-1/1296145/Photo21.jpg
It's an Icon Z, what more can I say. I have the RAP4 Spyder Mag and the MR1 trigger frame. I'm going to either paint or tape over the body to make it black.

Soon I'll get a bipod for cheap, cut the legs off and make a custom tribal design bipod.

google JCS paintball. they make some nice folding stocks for spyders that replace the back block but still gives you the velocity adjuster.

I'm getting a stock from there and unless it can house the bolt my bolt is exposed and I wouldn't be able to mount it, it's why the beavertail is there.

DFSniper

hmm. you could always convert it to top cocking, but then you wouldnt be able to use the sight rail...

irishwarrior
02-23-2008, 03:18 PM
Yeah, I might be able to make it side-cocking. Do you know how/where I can find out how?

Sorry for posting in this old thread but, I didn't want to make a new one. Here are some updated pics of my Icon Z:

Here's the trigger frame. It's my old MR1 trigger that I dremeled into a single trigger and took off the trigger guard:
http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk214/irishwarriorking/IconZTrigger.jpg

Here's the barrel. Put foam pipe insulator over the barrel for a shroud:
http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk214/irishwarriorking/IconZBarrel.jpg

And here's the entire thing. As you can see I gave it a paint job:

PS: Sorry for the blur

I have to say... that is pretty Ghettooooo.

what kind of bipod do you have?

Thanks, I think. I got the RAP4 HG Bipod here's the link (http://rap4.com/paintball/os/hg-bipod-p-2779.html)

lol. even my barrel shroud isnt that ghetto (check my sig link and the "custom whatever" thread in the customizing section for detailed pics). fix the trigger a little and make a small trigger guard (like a real gun) for it. oh, and make a stick feed for it and a 12g changer in the VA!

UPDATED Trigger Pic:

I fixed the trigger as best I could.

Instead of the stick feed I want to see if I can convert it into a mag-fed system, do you know how I could do that or someone who does?

lol. even my barrel shroud isnt that ghetto

rofl, I think it looks pretty good. Used a lot of electric tape though.

The Longbow feed can be found here (http://www.specialopspaintball.com/shop/category.asp?SEARCH=longbow) and I'll look for the power-feed.

Almost there:
http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk214/irishwarriorking/IconZ-2.jpg
Put my CAR stock on and put the original fore-grip on. With the long barrel and bi-pod the grip is in a really good spot. All I need is a feed system (possibly the Longbow) and rail to put on the sight rail.

so... are you going to use wood and put it over your body?

You'd probably would've been better off with another MR1, only because it has a stock and its rifle-like body.

 Wish I had an MR1 and some extra bucks

No, I ditched the wood idea, too much skill and tools I don't have. I was thinking of getting another MR1, but the Icon Z was cheaper (only 40 bucks American), had a velocity adjustment wheel and I wanted something that I would have to do some custom modding to, something that you couldn't buy everything for.

PS: It was also because I would get to use the dremel, which is always fun.
