My circa pre-1900 Lawries and the STUPID nickel-silver 1/2 mounts. They haven't been polished in about 2 years and this is what that looks like before:

Actually...it's not stupid...I am...for letting them get this bad in the first place...

The yellow is seriously weathered Ivory that I won't retouch. My luck, I ruin them...and Ivory cannot be replaced easily since there's a world-wide ban on it's harvest and sale. It's a US Customs nightmare with all the paperwork that needs to be filed and such, it's not worth the hastle since there's nothing physically wrong with them. I kinda think it adds character though...

here's 'after' I attacked them with Liberty polish:

Nope...no recordings of myself but I have a CD from a competition where we kicked some major ass...

...and nope again. I'm going to take care of that after I get my income tax return...or shortly afterwards

Thanks and nope. I used to compete and it was at least 2 competitions a month, all up and down the East coast and 1 in England. The politics (like anything else) gets to be absolutely too much and eventually became unbearable - so I retired from 99.95% of all public performances. I do, however, play for friends and co-workers for weddings and funerals but other than that, I play only for myself now.

If you decide to start, the only items you need right now are a practice chanter and College of Piping Tutor books 1 & 2.

Complete book one and start book 2. At this time, would be the correct time to start looking for a stand of (set of) Pipes. Depending on what performance style you decide to do, depends on what brand you should buy.

Street band pipes tend to be a louder Pipe...Gibsons and Hardies are typical stands for this activity.

Pipe Band competitions tend to require a more mellow Pipe...Kintail and Naill Pipes are most common for this.

Anything described as "Pakistani" or "Brass-lined" should be used for nothing more than kindling or the creation of war-clubs.

It's fun if you do it for you. When getting into it like I did, it becomes more like a 2nd/3rd part time job...and that's not very fun after a few years.

alright scottish boy put ye bags away in front of an irish

lol...I'd make a rude comment...but it was the Irish that helped Scotland the most during the English occupation for our liberation.

Otherwise...it'd be on....lmfao!!!

I <3 bagpipes. :)

Now if only I had any idea what my ancestry is like...

Btw, for a good band with pipes, find anything by the Mudmen, punk band + bagpipes = teh greatness

I think they look better afterward, but I know nothing about bagpipes.

BTW do you know the bagpipe part for "its a long way to the top if you wanna rock'n roll" by AC/DC?

I feel ya, my new boat (new to me at least) is waiting on the same magical time

I do, however, play for friends and co-workers for weddings and funerals but other than that, I play only for myself now.

I attended a friends funeral (AF Combat Controller KIA in Afganistan) and they had bagpipes play and it was all I could do to keep from fallin apart when I heard them...

Yes...even a first year (Grade 5) player plays that...lol.

In order of degree of difficulty for band competitions, from most difficult to least difficult, the order goes Grades 1 through 4. Grade 5 is Novice or practice chanter only.

I competed and retired at Grade II.

LOL...I know...but we like the Kilt so it was no joke for us....lmfao!!!

Yes, that's about the only part of my heritage I really know, Father's side shipped off from France to Canada in 1647... the rest seems to be lost in time.. other than that, I know my Mom's mother has some UK background, not entirely sure what, and her dad get this... was born in the Ukraine to a Polish mother and Austrian father... aka, I'm Heinz 57... ;)

I know... and it really doesn't help that when my dad's family came... they gradually moved from the east coast inland as the British settled.. so there's no telling what other bloodlines are intermingled, plus my last name was also changed in that time.
