I am 14 and a half years old, and I am having trouble convincing my mother and father to allow me to get COD 4 for 360. I have played it numerous times at my friends house. I have shown them trailers, and reveiws. My mom's main concerns are the blood, and more so that she will be hearing machine guns prattling all the time. I suggested I could turn off the sound. Does any one have any incite, or advice/suggestions to help my argument.

Well it is rated "M" for Blood and gore and intense violence and language..so she has a point. :/

M is what 17 and up..?

If you REALLY want the game, and have the cash, over the BST forums here and on PBN you could prolly find a copy.. or get an older friend to buy it... but that always comes with reprecussions.. parents don't really like it when you find tricky little loopholes in their decisions... trust me on that one.

They didn't card you because you're taller than the shelving unit you got the game out of. ;)

Sorry to go OT, but I play at canobie sometimes... I'm like 30 mins N of boston.

As to getting CO4... I've had similar problems since I started playing games... Its not fun.

Is there a blood/gore option to lower it? TBH, no COD game I've ever played has been particularly bloody... Try to convince them its on the lower end of M and whatnot... (not like say resident evil or whatever where you're blowing body parts off of people...)

Terrible advice! If your parents do not want you to have it....other than persuading them otherwise....you cannot have it. Getting it behind there backs is a good way to get alot of your other priveleges revoked.
Possibly, your friends can help....also, you might try to compare it to games they are already letting you play, although that might make them take those too!
PS Game Rating 'M' requires you to be 18 for purchace.

i think cod4 is over rated if you know what i mean. its just like halo, i think the both of them should be rated teen. look at the games that are rated m, like vice city(old game i now but its a good example) if they had one stepp higher thats what it should be, also ever played Oblivion, it was at one time rated T but the changed it to M because all it does is cus, good thing i got the T Version ;)
also i just turned 15 and play m games as long as my parents have some input, try that. Like halo and cod4 i had to have them watch me play them after i was like 9 and bought vice city, not a smart move on my part:(

I did say there are generally reprecussions of doing it that way. But if he's determined enough, he's going to figure that out for himself. Bottom line is, if you're parents have to buy the game for you, aka you don't have the money for it, its their decision on what you play. Besides, if you wait a couple years, it'll drop in price. Best choice though, is like VWJimmy said, keep working on your parents, because they might change their mind.

As for the ESRB rating... I'm probably remembering back to before they raised the age to 18, as I recall it was 17 for a while (this is when N64 first came out), not that I ever had to worry about it.

The ratings are a suggestion by ESRB that many stores make a company policy to follow. These ratings are in no way a law, and people cannot get in legal trouble for selling you this game. Not that I encourage going behind your parents backs, but you really don't need them to buy it. They didn't card hossy because he's 6' 7", and it's not like they'll get in any legal trouble for doing so, maybe just a rap on the hand from boss if he finds out.

Honestly, I think sheltering children over 12 from violence in media is pretty useless, but it's not really my decision so you might want to try some of this stuff. Just tell them it's nothing you haven't seen in movies, read in books, etc. Also remind them that violence in video games doesn't cause violent people in real life, studies have actually shown that if anything it causes you to be less violent and gives you and outlet.

Fight the power :dodgy:

Know your rights, Video game and movie ratings (with the exception of some that are deemed adult - AO, NC-17, unrated, X -since a court could consider this the equivalent of showing a kid porn in some cases) cannot get people in legal trouble, it's just a loose affiliation that people say they'll abide to. I think its BS either way.

it really does matter about age when it comes to war games. you are fighting for peace and your parents should approve of that :D

i agree, the lil kids growing up today are too immature for their age and are gonna be titty babies when they grow up and there not gonna fend for themselves if they have to. Then the US will be SOL because all we do is get in a fite with another country, Vietnam, iraq, who noes who will be next, just hope its not russia

i've been palying violent games since i was 5 years old (started with doom) in all honesty, all that crap about insentivity is dumb and completly pointless. People who don't understand games just place the blame on them, its just becoming a scapegoat. Go spank your kid, actually dicpilin them, see what happens to the nation. we will have more mature, and intelligent kids. Willing to work, and not have stuff thrown to them. So go play the game, realize its just a game, though also keep in mind there are real people are fighting to protect you.

I'm going into the Military as a officer after college, video games have had no part in that my whole life, my reasons, are its what every citizen should do, fight to protect there country, and truly earn the right to actually vote, and take part in our gov't. Also since my dad served, i want to follow in his footsteps.

Videogames, are just the games. Grow up annd go play them. You play paintball, there is no diffrence.

also, russia would be a would not be that hard, vietnam, no reason to fight there, iraq, already there. The country we will attack, or have to fight next will be iran or North Korea. And personelly the thought of that is more scary then iraq/afghanstan......Our youthwill, and will be made to fight when the time comes, i dont care if we have to break them down and remould them, we will fight.

i played it last week (friend's dad has it for ps3) and i didnt really notice any blood. from what you said in the first post, it seems that its more of a shooting game issue than a game-based issue.

From my playing of it... a lot of blood compared to other games I've played in the past (pink mist, etc), although no bodies are ripped to shreds, guts/blood everywhere, etc, so I'd be very conservative. If it was a mature 14 y/o that can handle that, sure. Go right ahead, it's an awesome game, and I love it! If he isn't, I'd put it off until he was. It'll be worth his wait.

I also have played it at my friends house who has ps3, and other than head shots, and when you knife them, I rarely see much blood. I know think the main issue is she says, " I wouldn't feel like a good parent letting you have it" which I still have trouble understanding, I mean come on she got me AC, which I think is much more graphic at times.

Yeah, Halo does show more blood than COD4. It could work one of two ways: either she'll cave when she realizes you already have gory games or she'll take the ones you have away just to spite you, haha.
