View Full Version : Functional Upgrade Suggestions

I've had a lot of success with my MR1 and am playing more and more. Please give me some suggestions for upgrades improving my gun's basic performance. If possible, please include about how much I might pay for the upgrades. That's asking a lot, but I figure this is the forum to find folks with that degree of expertise.

I'm running a factory MR1 on a 20oz CO2 with a 32 degrees remote coil. I shoot heat and its seems to be a good match to the bore.

Oh, and occasionally the trigger will not catch to fire a new round. The bolt is back and ready to fire, but the trigger feels like it would if the gun were not cocked or loaded at all. Insight?

Thanks

The trigger, kinda sounds like you not letting the it far enough forward to catch the sear right.

Polishing the internals, opening up the valve & shaving the pin down a little are the free mods.

Lighter internals, bolt & striker, will help. spring kits, regulator higher flowing valve.

o have not done anything to mine except put on a 14" smart parts progressive barrel and i love it. i shoot formula 13 paint and i am extremely happy with the accuracy and distance.
for your trigger maybe try a good thorough cleaning and good oiling. good luck

- Barrel, I Suggest the J&J Ceramic, = about $40 +/-
- Feedneck adapter, either the one from Trinity Paintball which is a one piece or CCM Sundragon which is 2 pieces, = about $40 - $50

The stock barrel isn't actually all that bad but it is really loud.
You'll want the feedneck adapter because those plastic POS's are way to tall, enlarging your profile and they break dam near every time you tighten it down enough that your hopper won't move.

aside from that, just figure out what you want your gun to look like and then use your imagination to figure out a way to do it. With a little modification most real firearm mil-sim upgrades will work just fine. I just had to go down to the local hardware store and find a slightly longer bolt for my mods.

feedneck - ive seen for about 32 shipped on ebay
and barrel -J&J $30 good barrel
and e-frame - you could buy a whole e-framed spyder for like $40 these days
would be my first upgrades,

then a good hopper(halo) $50-$100,
then i would polish the internals $10 materials,
spring kit $10

then if you want to low pressure,
buy a palmers setup $60-$100
high flowing valve - $10-$40 or you can make one from your stock one

This is what I have done to my gun and the prices they cost me w/o shipping

- j&J 14" ceramic barrel - $32.00 brand new off ebay

- Kingman rocking E-trigger **2.0** - $50.00 brand new off ebay
this is honestly you choice of frames, though a CAMD or ESP trigger frame are like $35, the rocking trigger does have the ghetto response trigger mod though

- Alamo city low blow delrin bolt w.orings - $28.95 http://www.alamocitypb.com/MANUFACTPAGES/kingman.html
avoid the low blow and just get the del flow - low isnt worth the extra $10
also your stock bolt is fine, remove the venturi and polish it and it'll be just as good

- Alamo city light weight striker 11/16 w.orings - $29.95
http://www.alamocitypb.com/MANUFACTPAGES/ACCESSPIX/spyderstriker.html
avoid this completely its a head ache to tune
- heavy red spring $10.00 included in spyder repair kit

- bob long detents - pack of 25 - $5.00 from ebay

- HALO hopper w/v35 and rip drive - $108.00 from http://www.xpaintball.biz/
doesnt have to be a v35, a regular halo b, or better yet a relaoder b, a eye force, eggy III, fastas will get the job done just as good

- Trinity solid feedneck - $34.99 also from http://www.xpaintball.biz/
check ebay - ive seen some for $32 shipped

- RAP co2 bottle gauge - $28.99 also from http://www.xpaintball.biz/
i don't see how this is neccessary

- hater sauce gun lube - $15.00

- dye espyder sticky grips - $24.99 brand new off ebay
not really neccessay either, plus the one spyder makes is cheaper than the dye stickies
- 24oz co2 bottle (although I find the 20oz is just as good) $15-20

mods not added but in the future

- expansion chamber

expansion chambers are a waste of money and his one isnt really bang for buck

- regulator or stabilizer - $79.00 plus $30.00 for the mount
http://www.palmer-pursuit.com/cart/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=8_9_28&products_id=175
there are many ways you can setup a reg on a mr1,
you can do a inline palmers reg and on/off asa combo
you can just screw a palmers into the asa and run a remote
screwing a torpeddo reg into the asa and running a remote would be the cheapest out of this

the 2.0 version seems rock solid to me I have had it for a while now and play woodsball at least 2 days a week. I have prolly shot at least 8 cases of paint using it...way better than the standard esp frame. its tuned to match the halo feed rate perfectly...NO CHOPS.

I was a chopping machine till I got this. gun feels like it has less kick and less popcorn effect, but yeah you could remove the veturi and polish but just spend the 28 bucks and do it right.

mine worked FLAWLESSLY out of the box.

dont be cheap spend a buck or two and get the v35 w rip..the Fasta imho was junk no diff between led and lcd and dint force feed too well. had to trade it...plus you can pick up a used halo w/v35 and rip for less than a hundred bucks.

- Trinity solid feedneck - $34.99 also from http://www.xpaintball.biz/
check ebay - ive seen some for $32 shipped
see my other posts..the guy selling for 32 is out of them, I just emailed him 2 weeks ago week for my buddy.

- RAP co2 bottle gauge - $28.99 also from http://www.xpaintball.biz/
i don't see how this is neccessary
we shoot co2,. sometimes we shoot all day long on my land our guys have prolly about 10-12 tanks..not all of them get emptied..so the gauge tells us how much gas is left...kinda self explantory really..in the heat of a woodsball battle soon as you hear that BRAAAPPPPPPPP! from a gun you know its time to move in cuz that guys out of gas...with the gauge you know when to switch without giving up your position with a fart cannon

- hater sauce gun lube - $15.00

- dye espyder sticky grips - $24.99 brand new off ebay
not really neccessay either, plus the one spyder makes is cheaper than the dye stickies
I must totally disagree, they are very necc!!!. .do you even have a rocking trigger frame?...the stock handle covers have huge gaps in them where paint can enter and they are flimsy ( i can photo mine if your in disbelief)...this is THE best grip upgrade for Etriggers..seals out paint and extra comfy to hold without giving up control. the spyder grips are JUNK.

- 24oz co2 bottle (although I find the 20oz is just as good) $15-20

what advantages does a lowblow bolt have?

MR1_SNIPER
12-05-2007, 08:29 PM
Upgrades to improve accuracy should commense with the internals.
Spyder "low blow" bolt from alamo city paintball $28.95 or Spyder delrin bolt $18.95
Bandit Bolts high flow air valve (ebay)
6 piece spring kit for volumized and velocity (ebay)

External:
If you prefer tactical then the RAP4 Spyder 16" tactical barrel will improve distance as well as accuracy $49
J&J ceramic 14" barrels are good as well but don't buy any barrels above the length of 16"

As regards to your trigger problem, in the lower part of the reciever there is a striker buffer and it can prevent the blowback of the striker to connect with the sear if the velocity is too high

Do either of these bolts have the problem of shearing off the ball detent?

MR1_SNIPER
12-06-2007, 12:03 PM
I'm not 100% sure but I believe that it shouldn't just because it has a lower density and is made of delrin not venturi. I have not had to replace the ball detent yet fro the delrin and I play speedball alot.
