assuming theyre in a straight line, the distance between point B and point D is 12 units, unless point B is between points D and C, then it would be 2 units. now, if they weren't in a straight line, the distance would depend on the interior angle of lines BC and CD.

I had that question in my SAT prep class last week and it gave some people trouble, so i thought id try to get some people on that one.

haha. ive come across questions like that before where i misread it or made it too complex and the teachers are like "no, youre making it too hard, this is how you do it!" but i learned from experience not to assume things...
