My advice is to go to an electronic store and get a feel for them. See which ones feel good to you and talk to the sales person about the features and what will work best for you. Write down the manufacturers and model numbers and then go here--->http://www.dcresource.com/ and read, read, read. It's a very informative site for cameras.

Sorry it's not the answer you were probably looking for, but without any knowledge about them, the sales person will sell you a camera with alot of bells and whistles that you probably won't use.

my $0.02.

dont waste money on anything over 5 mega pixels. i think 4.6 is enough to make a poster sized image.....

no sony... IF it breaks, you'll have a horrible time trying to get them to give you a replacement or get it fixed for a reasonable price, etc.

Or unless your getting a professional camera... and need it for your buisness.

SONY Cybershots are nice. I've always liked them. 5.0 is the way to go.

Right now I have a Kodak Easyshare 5.0 MP that is older... but works great.
I wouldn't suggest getting a digital camera with a "Optical Zoom Lense" though. They are harder to take pictures of since the "zoom" is just a digitally inhanced version of the same image. Which in turn makes it harder to get non-blurry shots.

Get a telescoping lense digital camera.

I just went through the samething back at my birthday, after about 3 weeks of looking online and going to tons of stores I picked up the Sony H9. I love it, powers up fast, focus time is amazing and it takes great pictures. Also has 15x optical zoom, 8 mp, huge lcd screen and battery life is pretty good, without using the flash I get about 400-500 off of the charge. I would pick it up again in a heartbeat, couldn't be happier with it.
