In the rear of the marker, behind the velocity adjuster, is a piece of black plastic that goes between the striker spring and the velocity adjuster. What the shim kit does, in theory, is put larger or smaller pieces in place of the stock one. The spring kit is a set of replacement striker and valve springs. The long ones are the striker springs, the very short, little ones are the valve springs. What changing the shim/striker spring does is change the velocity of the bolt, which changes the fps of the paintball when fired. It is a widely held belief that the spring kit is a better choice and is more reliable than the shim kit. Changing the valve spring will change how long the valve stays open, the locnger it's open, the more air goes out the barrel. The more air that goes out the barrel, the faster the fps.
