View Full Version : Scavenger hunt task suggestion

just want to remind everyone that this is a family forum so keep the tasks relatively clean, non-harmful and legal.

Keep the tasks coming though.

Ok, so as many of you know, here at SOC we'll be doing a task scavenger hunt. That means instead of items, you'll be completing tasks. So far... I've been busy and haven't had a ton of time to create a complete task list, but I've come up with some categories to help make the process faster. I want some suggestions from you guys, if they're good we'll put them in (we won't tell you until the task list is released). Here is the category list, with notes to what goes in each category and how much they might be wort.

Finders
-This will be like a traditional scavenger hunt. People must find what is listed, and take a picture of it, with proof that they took the picture. (IE team name or user name written on paper (not photoshopped in)). This will require you to actually GET A PICTURE with what/whoever is listed rather than take a picture from the distance. example:
A woman with a baby in her backpack
I would go out with a camera and a piece of paper that says "helpdeskhustler" or my team name and find a woman with a baby in her backpack, then have her hold the paper while I take the picture, or find a way to get her in the background/foreground of a picture with me and the paper in it, or just the paper (all papers MUST be readable) generally these will be lower point values

Actions
-this will be similar to the show jackass, where dumb things are done, except far less dangerous than the average jackass stunt. Do not suggest violent things or tasks that are very dangerous. Eating tasks such as "x" amount of "y" food in "z" time would be included here. A bonus may be added to a task for people who go above and beyond. Some tasks here will require VIDEO FOOTAGE of the task being performed, others will simply require a before after and durring picture that proves the task was completed. Example of doing before durring and after: Last year Marv did the task "Eat a half can of SPAM"he took pictures of it being cooked, on his plate, and in his mouth all chewed up, with his name in the pictures -when in doubt if your pictures of tasks will be accepted TAKE A LOT OF PICTURES to be safe.

Build/make
-Similar to actions, instead of just doing something, the person will be required to MAKE something from supplies. the task can be general and leave the supplies up to the people to decide, or specific (but still possible) and tell the people what to make a specific item out of. Examples:bake cookies, make a cake, build an ancient fortressPictures durring building and of completed building will be required. all pictures need a legible name or team name

Contest
these can be any of the above categories, but they will not be given a score until the hunt is over. Judges will decide who has the best submission for a task that is in compliance with rules, then will award any teams they feel deserve points at their descretion. there will be a maximum awardable points, but the minimum is zero exapmles may include "best street sign" "wierdest looking person" etc.

POST IDEAS PLEASE!

note: mine may or may not be in it, I'm just posting here to be fair so that the discussion is open, and that my team won't be stacked by knowing all of the possible tasks.

-Make the best meal. (judged)
-barrel roll down a steep, grassy hill
-belly flop into a pool
-Find a man with dreadlocks
-Go to a fast food restaurant, give them a handful of unused ketchup packets that say the restaurant's name on it and say you felt bad about being wasteful. bonus if you cry and make a scene.
-ask a police officer for a ride home.
-do a trick on your bike, skateboard, snowboard, etc. (best- judged)
-Go trick or treating, full costume, if multiple teams do it, a bonus task will be made for best costume, first team to trick or treat will be the only team awarded points for the original task though.
- sit on a bench and believably cry loudly in public for 30 seconds, bonus points if a random person asks you if you are ok.
-Draw a picture (best)

more later.

when you say do a barrel roll, do you mean in the air, or just rolling down a hill in a tube or something?

Help a total stranger change their flat tire or push their stalled car.

Paradox313

*Talk to a complete stranger without moving your tongue.
Extra points if he/she understands you, and continues conversation

To help start a convorsation use these:
Do you have the time?
Can you believe the weather?
Hi.
I'm__________ what's yours?

*Ask a stranger(s) for a quarter, accumulate as much money as possible within 20 minutes.

*Dress in women's clothing and yell
"No one understands me!"
Extra points if you do it in a enclosed public place, and get someone to leave.

And just cause I like this comic

I suggest watching some internet videos and getting ideas from there.

kite out of car needs to be reworked so people aren't running into things like they were in the ghost riding fad. I'd say require it to be low speed and passenger flies the kite, rather than a driver doing both.

fireworks will be gone and illegal in many states when this begins... the draft is after july 8th. exactly 10mph might be hard to judge too... especially since speedometers aren't all accurate.

Thats what I ment it to be, nothing stupid, so noone gets hurt.

my fault, then dont count that one.
exactly 10mph might be hard to judge too... especially since speedometers aren't all accurate.

How about just taking a picture of the speedometer at 10mph...close enough

This could very easily turn into somebody getting into trouble. If you cause a seen and the police are called you can get in trouble for disturbing the peace, disorderly conduct, I'm sure many other things.

Pic of You and girl friend- Prettiest girl wins (judged)
We won't do this because this is totally opinion and we've had threads like this that get closed very fast.

party like a rockstar
When I think of partying like a rockstar, I think of things that lots of people can't do on this website. Somethings illegal for those under 21, somethings just illegal.

win a scratchoff
In AZ you have to be 21 to purchase and win anything from a scratch off, so most wouldn't be able to participate

mock D's accent (best interpretation wins) :p
We will not harm anybody in any way, physically or emotionally. Although D probably won't have a problem we still aren't going to do it. Plus most don't know what D sounds like it

Really good suggestions guys, keep them coming.

What do I need to do? Start compiling a list of tasks/activities that are acceptable for the contest? So when it starts I have a list to send to everyone.

I was thinking that maybe I would make a daily task that gets you bonus points. The first person that does the task is the only one who gets the points. Something like, find a certain word displayed in a public place. You'd have to take a picture of it and the surroundings so we know its not staged. Just a thought.

We also need to work out a points system.

definitely to both of those. I was thinking a GREAT system to keep momentum would be the +.05 rule. Each task will go up in value by .05 (1/20th) it's original value every day it goes not being completed. This will help add a pseudo-strategy and make undesirable tasks more desirable. these would be rounded DOWN to the nearest whole number, and tasks would be based around 10's so that it didn't take like 10 days to add some value. This would require judges to ensure task check is kept up to date, so if you and bamf are in the clear with it, we'll probably make it a rule.

Also, regarding teams, it's come to my attention that a couple of "OS" members want to make the contest OS vs "newbie". If we did this, I think OS team would probably have alot less team mates, meaning they'd have to go the extra distance to get some points. say we have 20 contestants... if we split it like 7 os members on 1 team and 13 newer members on the other team, do you guys think it would be fair? We're definitely only looking at 2-3 teams though, regardless of whether we do a draft or this.

I think the +.05 rule is a good idea as long as it is kept in check by the judges. As for the "newbie" vs. OS contest. How would you define "newbie"?

I'm kind of worried about how much I'm going to be able to help out with this scavenger hunt. I'm going to be out of town from the 9th until the 21st. I'm trying to see if I can get 1 more mod besides Dan and I who would help out. I can probably get on once a day to check things out but probably not anymore than that. Let me worry about that though, I will get everything worked out.

1. Everyone will sign up by the 10th, correct? Then we pick teams or are we going to do the OS vs Newbs?

2. When will we officially start the hunt?

3. How long will the hunt last?

I thought I saw somewhere about signing up by the 10th, but maybe we should get an "Official" list going. That way we can all see who is in, if we are missing anybody and if anybody else wants to join. I'll browse through the other thread and see who has signed up so far.

we have a list on the other one, that's like 1 name off. I think i have some friends regging to play. The draft/teams will be chosen on the 10th, all submissions are due BEFORE this day EST. The list will be sumbitted to mods so they can change up a few things for fairness, edit anything that's bad, etc.
then on the 12th we'll have it posted and begin. The hunt probably will last until it slows down a bit or there are only really hard tasks left. I'm estimating a month, but it might need like "round 2" where we circulate people if they need out/in, possibly rebalance teams, and add more tasks.
